Sprinting Down the Home Stretch

Today’s post is from David Goldgof, a Cloud Product Marketing Intern located in our Redwood City HQ office. David is a rising senior at Cornell University, where he studies Operations Research Engineering. When David is not working at Informatica, you can probably find him hanging out with friends, at the gym, or outside enjoying the beautiful California weather.

key pointNow that I have reached the home stretch of my internship, I want to discuss a few key points I made in my first blog post earlier this summer.

“As I progress in my internship, I plan to continue to learn as much as possible, and more importantly, have a lot of fun doing it. Looking ahead, I am excited to eventually reach the point this summer where I can look back and reflect on my experience here.”

I think I have finally reached the point where I can begin to reflect on some of my experiences, and share a few highlights of my internship experience.

Learning as much as possible

Although only about six weeks have passed since my initial blog post, I feel completely different in terms of my role at Informatica. Initially my focus was simply to learn as much as possible about the company, my department, and the products. While I am certainly still learning new things every day, at this point I am learning more on the job as I make significant progress in my projects. The technical and personal skills I have gained this summer will help with wherever my life may take me.

Having a lot of fun

I can’t stress enough how much Informatica does to make this an incredible experience for all of us interns. While we are certainly held to a high standard in terms of our work, there has never been an absence of fun experiences. We have had the chance to explore the Bay Area and bond as a group through various organized activities, including a Giants baseball game, and an afternoon of sailing around SF bay. Just last week we had our Informatica Olympics, where we enjoyed competition along with our managers and mentors. Through these organized events, I have been able to build lasting networks and bonds.

Seeing real results

While the learning and fun were definite benefits, the greatest value of my internship was in being able to see real results of my work.  If you take a poll of every intern here, you will get unanimous feedback that we work on projects that matter. The opportunity to experience this so young in my career further enhanced my summer experience.

So what does this all mean?

For me, this means that my choice to intern at Informatica this summer was the right one. So for anyone looking at summer internships next year, I strongly encourage you to consider Informatica as an option. And finally, I want to give a shout out to everyone here who has made my internship experience an amazing one. I will continue to learn, have, fun, and try to make even more of an impact as I sprint down the home stretch in my final 2 weeks.
